Having what it takes

Our culture obsesses over whether we each have what it takes for success.  Do we have the right look, the right height, the right degree, the right connections, the right address?  I’m encouraged by folks who didn’t appear to have what it takes.

Abraham Lincoln read by candlelight.  He read God’s opinion of the human soul and changed the history and course of our nation.

Clara Barton was a nurse, not a surgeon.  She used the skill she had.

Mother Theresa was neither a theologian nor philosopher, but she made a compelling statement to the world about the value of each person.  She influenced politicians and kings.

So, my friend, when you and I don’t seem to have what it takes for the task at hand, God’s gives us whatever it takes.
