God’s Choices #2
January 16, 2024
God choses people in ways that puzzle us. Needy widows in Scripture are often the recipients of God’s grace and provision beyond imagination.
In I Kings 17, God chooses to rescue a pagan widow from starvation through Elijah. In II Kings 4 God chooses a Jewish widow, widow of a prophet and saves her children from slavery due to their dad’s accumulated debt.
King David wed 2 widows: Abagail and Bathsheba. Abagail widowed because God took Nabal’s life. Bathsheba widowed because David murdered her husband, Uriah. Widows Tamar, Ruth, Naomi and many more: their circumstances extreme, misunderstood, even bazaar to us.
We have the benefit of reading their story, seeing some of His purposes even those women could not fathom at the time. Lesson: God choses people in ways that puzzle us. He chooses well.
