Forgiveness – Process
March 4, 2026
Most of us struggle with forgiving others. It’s natural, because we are humans. As Christ followers, we can, because faith has changed us.
Forgiveness is typically defined as the process of giving up resentment, indignation, or anger as a result of a perceived or real offense. It’s ceasing to demand punishment. Freedom grants free pardon and to give up all claim on account of an offense or debt.
These few words are profound. Forgiveness is a process. At its conclusion we’ve given up resentment, indignation, and anger. Might those old feelings resurface? Yes, and that’s why Scripture says forgive seventy-seven times, Matthew 18:22. That negative reminder does not rule you. We’ve been transformed. For that reason we can forgive as long as it takes, and often, it takes a long time.
