Ephemerals

Ephemerals: colorful wildflowers that carpet Death Valley, which is a 3,000 square mile low furnace hemmed in by mountains.  California bound wagon trains dreaded the area. Travelers now are advised to turn off their car air conditioners, so engines don’t overheat in the 120 degree weather.

Ephemerals bloom with beauty there, but only for a short window of time.  And only when conditions match their potential to bloom.

As a Christ follower, I’d love to bloom long and well for His glory in ideal circumstances.  That may not happen in this challenging world.  I might wish to be a rose, not a wildflower.  But lets determine whatever our window of opportunity, whether long or short, we’ll be like those ephemerals:  beautiful and content to be exactly what He has designed us to be.
