Christ Follower – Athlete

How does a Christ follower live?  What should our life look like?  Paul describes this in his challenge to Timothy.  He uses three examples:  a soldier, an athlete, and a hard-working farmer.  II Timothy 2.  The athlete trains before the competition.  His first race is not the marathon, first event not a triathlon.  Timothy, though a young disciple, was taught from his youth by his mother and grandmother.  He was taught and tutored by Paul.  Having Scripture in our heart, available instantly in life’s challenges is like muscle memory for the athlete.  That athlete, wrestler, boxer, whatever repeats a move until they can deliver that grip or punch or sprawl instantly without a long thought process.

The athlete trains on good days and in sunshine and rain.  That’s us, brothers and sisters, we are God’s athletes.
