Best Advice

I recently asked a group who had experienced an unwanted change in their life, ‘what was the single best piece of advice you were given?’  Topping the list was, ‘Don’t make any major decisions in that first year, even two, if possible.’

Single again?  Remain single.  Get healed and whole after divorce or death.  Leaping into a new relationship does not fill the void.  It masks loneliness.  Sell and move?  Maybe, but not before clear thinking returns.

Second best words they heard.  “I’ll stay connected.  Listen.  I’m here.”  Then that person keeps their word.  Checks in on important days.  Listens when vulnerability leads to temptation.  The Proverbs friend who stays closer than a brother.  Proverbs 18: 24 priceless.
