Poverty of perspective. Knowing the insignificant. Focusing on the irrelevant. Poverty destroys. We see that tragedy in blighted communities. We’re seeing the destruction of spiritual poverty in our country. Many of us suffer from the poverty of perspective. And we don’t even know it!
We know the name of celebrities’ babies, but not the source of the Golden Rule. We know Jesus left us wise advice, but hardly remember the 10 most important instructions He gives us for our well-being.
We have a shopping list but not a life mission statement.
What shatters that poverty of perspective and right sizes our view? Often tragedy. Loss. We don’t like that. There’s another way. Get up close to those in life’s hardest trenches. We become grateful for small things and focus on what matters.
