The Road Less Traveled

Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Less Traveled” is intriguing.  For those of us starting over in life for unwelcome reasons, it’s gripping.  We must choose without preparation.  I’ve discovered that it’s not just choosing between the left fork or the right fork, the paved road or the barely visible path through high weeds.  We choose our attitude.

Options:  fearful, optimistic, skeptical, enthusiastic, bitter, accepting.

I was accustomed to optimism taking the road less traveled during my 41 years of marriage.  Bob and I both had and adopted children, traveled the world, and sometimes found ourselves beyond our skill level.

While his death has forced me to choose other paths, I’ve decided that optimism is still a good companion.  And, yes, I’ve chosen that road that is literally mainly weeds as I pursue my new purpose in Africa.
