God’s Choices #1

God chooses people.  I’m surprised with his widow choices of in Scripture.  1 Kings 17, God directs the prophet Elijah to go to a widow’s home to be fed.  Famine was gripping the land, hunger, and starvation.  This widow was collecting sticks to cook a last meal for herself and her son before starvation.  He asked her to give him water, no sacrifice needed.  She did so.  He asked her for bread, a sacrifice, and trust in a stranger.  She did. Result, Elijah took up residence in her home.  He fed her and her son throughout the drought.

She was a pagan.  He was Jewish. Why not stay with a Jewish widow?  This pagan woman eventually believed in Elijah’s God referring to him as Lord.  Lesson.  God choses.  That person’s salvation?  The nature of God’s love for all people?  His provision when, where, and to whom He chooses.
