Saul

I have been studying Old Testament leaders in a different light given the realities of our leaders lives today. King Saul is an intriguing example. When Samuel was ready to present Saul to Israel as their king, Saul could not be found. He was hiding in the baggage.
Note the humility, even fear of this young man who stood head and shoulders above all others, impressive in appearance, yet humble at the time. Samuel had already anointed him King. Saul knew his assignment. Saul had seen God’s leading yet was not strutting and proudly claiming his new title.
Later Samuel, the priest who anointed him stated, “When you were little in your own sight.” A phrase any leader should remember. This spirit did not last, but Saul started well.
