Trust and verify

Ronald Reagan liked to quote a Russian proverb that stated ‘Trust, but Verify.’ Good practice. The concept did not originate with the Russian proverb. Acts 17: 11 described how one group listened to the gospel. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
How important for us today. Tweets, speeches, sermons, there’s plenty of false teaching and fake news to go around. Solution. Personally, alone before the Lord, open Bible, read, review, reread, pray. Contrast what you hear with Scripture. Why are you capable of doing this? Because the Holy Spirit will be your teacher.
